Behind the Music
Keeping Music Alive
Classical (solo violist and chamber music)
Besides my performances as a solo violist all over the country, I am also active as a chamber music musician in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Poland and America. For the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra I worked as co-principal violist. I form a string duo with master violinist Vadim Brodsky. To this day we perform a lot, especially in Poland, Italy and Latvia. In these countries I am also a teacher in various master classes.

Classical (coach of singers in the Russian repertoire)
In the 1970s, in addition to a conservatory training as a performing musician, I also completed a 4-year university study in Russian literature and rhetoric. The special and at the same time rare thing about this training was the fact that I worked a lot with Russian singers (who of course had an excellent command of the language) with nuance, phrasing and accents, which, together with the musical material, is an important aspect of the art of singing. The cohesion between my literary education and my musical talents is a rather rare profession in the singing world.
For years I have worked as a coach for very famous Russian singers in different Russian opera houses.

Jazz (solo and bands)
A while ago I formed the "Rusanovsky Jazz Quartet", with which I performed in Paradiso and Panama, among others. I regularly played together with the well-known guitar duo Reinier Voet and Jan Bouman. For more than 25 years I have been active in the Jazz world as an improviser on the viola in the traditional Jazz style of the 1930s. I was the first Dutchman to perform in the famous club "Blue Note" in New York, with fellow musicians such as Chick Corea and Toots Thielemans. I regularly teach Jazz students in California.
